Rangsit University Finance Lecturer Wins Outstanding Personnel Award from the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) in the New Generation Researcher Category for 2018

On November 19, 2018, the Private Higher Education Institutions Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn held its 41st anniversary and presented certificates and honorary pins to outstanding personnel and outstanding students who have made outstanding achievements in various fields from member organizations of the Private Higher Education Institutions Association of Thailand (PHEIT) in 2018. This year, Dr. Kulbutr Komenkul, Deputy Dean for Administration and International Affairs and Lecturer in Finance and Investment, Faculty of Business Administration, Rangsit University, won the Outstanding Personnel Award in the category of “Outstanding Young Researcher” in the Social Sciences category from the Private Higher Education Institutions Association of Thailand under the Royal Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kritsana Thonglert, Vice President for Student Affairs, Rangsit University, and the university’s executives congratulated them at The Sukosol Hotel, Bangkok. Dr. Kulbutr stated that since he is a lecturer in the field of finance and investment, his research focuses on providing real benefits to the development of the financial and capital markets, especially in the context of Thailand. In the past 2-3 years, he has published more than 4 pieces of work internationally. Such research works include a study of the phenomenon where the closing price of IPO shares on the first day is higher than the subscription price. In financial terms, this is called IPO Under-pricing. He tries to find various variables that affect the rate of return, such as the size of the company, the age of the company, the reputation of the financial advisor, the proportion of various types of investors, and other variables to explain why IPO shares must be under-priced. In addition, another research study focuses on the purpose of fundraising or the use of funds, which listed companies disclose information on the use of funds. From the prospectus, there are 3 objectives: to invest further to expand the business, to pay off debts, or to use as net working capital. Other research works include a study of the abnormal returns of IPO shares in the long term, which will be beneficial to investors. The results will provide recommendations on which groups of stocks investors should buy for the long term or invest in for the short term. Study on the probability of IPO stocks becoming speculative stocks and study on how monetary policies and measures issued by the Bank of Thailand affect the IPO market and abnormal returns on stocks. In addition to the TISI Young Researcher Award, Dr. Kulbutr has also received the SET Best Paper Award in Capital Market at the Asian Finance Association Annual Conference (ASIAN FA) and the British Accounting and Finance Association (BAFA) Best Research Award. Dr. Kulbutr added that in terms of research, Rangsit University has helped develop and push personnel to participate in various forums, both nationally and internationally, so that academics can open their perspectives and develop their potential to further apply in teaching and learning, and to disseminate knowledge of that research to the public and outsiders.
